During my photo shoot the air temp progressively dropped. At one point my watch read -12 degrees C. The image I wanted required the shutter to remain open for 8 minutes....so I went for a short "night jog" while I waited!

Toaroha Canyon NZ
The recent (8/01/12) first canyoning descent of the Toaroha canyon took 8 hours and involved waterfall jumps, scrambling on smooth schist, some bold decision making and a little luck!
Moeraki Boulders, Otago
Eroded from mudstone cliffs behind the beach the boulders of Moeraki appear more like prehistoric dinosaur eggs than rocks. On a recent visit foam-filled waves surged forward wrapping around the smooth boulders. To capture the image I stationed myself in the waves. Photographing the movement of the water was addictive and I completely lost track of time.
Oparara arch, NZ
For a million years the Oparara River system has been at work sculpting a limestone basin into a wonderful series of caves, arches and channels.
Antarctic kayaking
Kayak guide Val Lubrick finds her way through a field of glacial brash ice. The Antarctic environment is constantly overwhelming and the feeling of privilege is always on the surface.

Paparoa National Park - A traverse of its southern range
Inland past the popular tourist stopover of Punakaiki’s pancake rocks, lies the buckled Paparoa Range. The granite and gneiss rocks of the range are some of the country’s oldest, forming a seemingly impenetrable band of craggy peaks. In shot Tai Poutini polytechnic students push forward into the park’s interior.
Lake Wahapo, South Westland
As evening faded the last burst of light from a setting sun transformed this stand of podocarp forest into a golden painting.
