Otter Bar Kayak School

Otter Bar Kayak School is turning into a real kiwi hang out. With Ben Jackson, Jess Brown and myself from the New Zealand Kayak School all migrating to the warmer climate of the Salmon river in Northern California for the spring/summer season. The NZ flag flies high here with Clare Cosson, Dave Ritchie and Graham Charles all contributing to our plan of Otter Bar take over and ultimately world domination!
Otter Bar Lodge is widely regarded as the premier kayak school in the United States. Its remote location, pristine wilderness, proximity to high class whitewater, exquisite cuisine and lodge facilities along with "the world's best kayak instructors" (quote from last week) Otter Bar is without a doubt a great place and an even better place to work.

Heading back to work! how many people look this stoked during there commute to work? I5 between Sacramento and "Weed" is a section of road we dread driving. Four hours of straight lines, dry stark landscape and offramps to billboards signposting fast food.

Big meals, means I now own a pair of running shoes! This is where it all happens, Otter Bar.

Last week we kept in touch with the local boys out there as to flows in the high sierra. Upper Cherry creek was high on the list. Having made the 16km hike into the meadows of the catchment at both really high flow and low water flows I was keen on getting it right third time around. A cold front hit California mid week dropping snow in Tahoe, temperatures dropped dramatically. With limited time we opted to get a couple of runs in on the regular cherry creek run before heading back to work.

So that was a good lap on Cherry for sure. We ended up going to Middle Fork Kings and then "Double Headering" it with Upper Cherry. So we had a major adventure!

It was good meeting you guys, looking forward to following more of your adventures.
